Interviews: Syprodrgon2

Last updated 02 Aug 2005
Spyro won Gallery Spotlight for his excellent gallery - Underwater Creatures. It is amazing the amount of effort and time he put into his gallery, and as we can all see, it paid off greatly. I was able to get an interview with him to share with you all.

Jenn: So, Sypro, tell me a bit about yourself.
Spyro: Well.. er... my name is syprodrgon2, and I won gallery spotlight. Woo!

Jenn: Your username, does that have any reference to the play station game, Spyro the Dragon?
Spyro: Haha, a lot of people ask me that, and I always think.. isn't it obvious? It's syprodrgon2! How could it NOT be from Spyro the Dragon??

Jenn: Ah, I see. Do you play it often?
Spyro: I made the account about 4 years ago, I guess I was 11 or 12, and I was into Spyro back then, but I haven't even played any of the games in a really long time. I really wish I could change my username.. especially since I spelt Spyro and dragon wrong. Heh..

Jenn: I see you're in a Kau guild, does this indicate you love Kaus the most?
Spyro: Well no, not really. I don't really have a favorite Neopet, but when I was a newbie the owner of the guild back then sent me an invite. I had no idea what a guild was, so I joined.. and I've just been at the same guild ever since.

Jenn: Approximately how much did it cost for all those items?!
Spyro: I really have no idea. It's probably a couple million. I was really lucky though - about a week after I had started the gallery, Dr. Sloth gave me a Krawk Transmog, worth about a million. Then about a week after that the Quadrapus avatar came out, and I had one in my gallery, so I got a lot from selling that. I still have a couple million more to go before it's complete though.

Jenn: Your idea is very original, where did you get the inspiration and idea to make an underwater creatures Gallery?
Spyro: There are a few other underwater galleries that started way before mine, so it's not THAT original, but I got the idea from the Underwater Cavern fishing. I liked the fish and I needed an idea for a gallery, so I thought underwater creatures would be a good idea.

Jenn: Did you create this gallery specifically for the trophy, or did you just enter your gallery miscellaneously?
Spyro: When TNT made it where you could have a shop and a gallery seperate, I just had a sudden urge to create a gallery. It wasn't to win Gallery Spotlight or anything, I just thought it would be fun I guess.

Jenn: How long have you had this gallery for?
Spyro: I started it when the Underwater Cavern was released, so... almost a month and a half. It takes years for some people to win, so I was pretty surprised.

Jenn: Did you do the design and coding in your shop? It's amazing.
Spyro: Yeah, I did it all myself. A lot of people use special programs like Paint Shop Pro to make big fancy graphics, or they have someone else make their graphics, but I did mine all myself with Microsoft Paint.

Jenn: Fish of the Month, quite interesting. How long have you been running this?
Spyro: Yeah, I wanted to make my gallery different from other underwater galleries, and I liked the idea. I just finished making Barney the Blandfish for August, so I've made a total of three. I guess that's three months that I've been running it, even though I've only had the gallery for one and a half.

Jenn: What is it like raising underwater creatures for a living? They don't fight often, do they?
Spyro: Ahh, it's crazy! Just the other day, when Lyle the Landfish was first introduced to the Empire, all the other fish starting saying that land creatures weren't allowed in the Empire and wouldn't leave him alone about it. A huge fish fight ensued, and Marvolo the Mundo (he's the Emperor) had to come down himself to help sort it all out!

Jenn: What would you say is your most favorite underwater creature, and why?
Spyro: That's really hard.. I can't really pick just one, but I like just about all the new petpets from the Maraqua petpet shop. I guess those are my favorites.

Jenn: Do you often get a lot more neomails now that you've won Gallery Spotlight?
Spyro: Yeah, but it has died down now that my gallery isn't on the front page of the news. The day I won, before I went to the news, it was really weird suddenly having a billion neomails. I had no idea why I was getting so many all of a sudden.

Jenn: Any tips for people who want to win Gallery Spotlight?
Spyro: Have a fancy custom layout, try not to use any premade graphics, get a decent amount of items, a nice theme.. and then once you have all that, try to make it original. Add something to make it different from the thousands of other galleries.

Jenn: Have you ever entered any other galleries and been reject or/and accepted?
Spyro: Nope, this was my first one.

Jenn: Would you consider galleries as your "hobby"?
Spyro: Not really.. I actually kinda wish I was already done with this gallery so I could start using my np on other stuff, like a new gallery or neohome or something.

Jenn: I see you haven't received your Gallery Spotlight trophy yet. *laughs at TNT* A bit slow, aren't they?
Spyro: Well, I have it NOW, but yeah, it took forever.

Jenn: Thanks so much for your time, any closing statements?
Spyro: Just thanks to everyone who has sent all the neomails and donations. I couldn't thank everyone for the donations, but I really do appreciate it.
