Guilds Basic

Last updated 01 Aug 2006 · by doug
So you want to make a guild? Follow these basic steps and you should get your desired result. Once you've done these see Guilds: Advanced and if you want a really big guild see Guilds: Super Guilds.

Step 1: Planning

Setting up everything to be perfect
Yes I meant to say that, planning. That is one of the most common guild mistakes people make. They don't plan how it's going to work .Sometimes this works, most of the times it does not. Do you want a large guild? Do you want a small guild? Do you want your guild to have a theme? Do you want a private guild? Find a good co owner (VERY IMPORTANT), make sure you know this person, and this person is online as much if not more than you.

Step 2: Picking A Theme

Finding what suits you best
You have found your co owner (hopefully). Now its time to pick what you want your guild to be. If you want a private BD guild, or a faeries guild, or a Lord of the Rings Guild or something like that. General themed guilds (with no theme) tend to do the best. If you do want a theme go for Harry Potter. Those Harry Potter guilds seem to do well too. If you want a private guild stick to Battledome, etc. Very rarely to private guilds grow over 500 members, because if they get too big it defeats the purpose.

Step 3: Choosing a Name

Finding that perfect name
A name is VERY important. Its what all of your graphics will say, etc. When thinking of a name, think of these important points; is can be easily abbreviated (such as Point Zero, and PZ), it relates to the guild's theme (don't call a faerie guild Battle Matrix or Warriors of Neopia), and its not too long. If possible stay way from these things: ~!@#$%^&*(). I have not seen a successful guild yet with those in its name. Try simple names like Point Zero, Battle Matrix, Faerie Lovers Cloud, Harry Potter, Custom Neopia, etc. (as to my knowledge all of these names have been taken).

Step 4: Making The Guild

You need to start somewhere

You got your theme, your co owner, your name, and you are ready to actually make the guild. Go to the shops screen, click guilds, click create new. Fill out the information with your guild name, hierarchy (should of been discussed and should relate to guild theme), colors (use a pre made one until you get your layout and web site), description (use some basic HTML until you get the graphical version), etc.

Step 5: Website & Layout

The main essiental of the guild
If you want you can make a guild web site, and/or layout or have someone do it. It depends how good you are with graphics programs, and HTML, PHP, etc. The better you are with both, the better they will turn out. Ask some neofriends who are good at graphics or see Guilds: Super Guilds for information on getting a top notch layout and/or web site.

Step 6: Contests, and Giveaways

The more fun parts of the guild
If you have a private guild, it is just members. If its a public guild you'll probably one more members. Try the guild chat boards, neomail friends, IM friends, if you have a lot of NeoPoints put a notice board ad up, and more.
