Introduction

A welcome message to the guide

In this game you play Garin, who made the foolish mistake of trying to be a pirate on somebody else's turf. Now Garin's ship is under attack from the fearsome Captain Scarblade, and his crew. Can you help Garin defend his ship from the hordes of pirates, or will Scarblade get his revenge?

Controls

  • Use the Space Bar to swipe Garins sword and pick up or throw cannon balls and water

Playing the Game

How to play the game

Here are the basics. When an enemy appears, you must get Garin to knock the enemy over-board. You can do this by swiping with your sword, throwing water at them, or hitting them with a cannon ball. To knock an enemy over-board, you must be at the front of the deck, whereas to light cannons and pick up water, you need to be at the rear of the deck. To pick up water or cannons, you must be at the rear of the deck and standing next it, then press spacebar. To use the item, move to the front of the deck and then press spacebar while you are in front of an enemy. You achieve this by pressing the up and down arrow keys. As well as the front and rear of the deck, there are also positions for each side of the screen.
These are as follows:

  • Far left (where the cannon balls are)
  • Left
  • Right
  • Far Right (where the water bucket is)
It is the same for both the front and rear of the deck. You cannot knock a pirate over-board when standing on the rear of the deck; you have to be standing directly in front of them on the front of the deck.

Levels

The levels in the game


Level 1 is very simple, an enemy appears of the side of the ship, you move up to the front of the deck, press spacebar and he gets knocked off. You keep doing this until you have 25+ points.

Level 2 is getting you used to picking up objects and throwing them, whilst keeping the enemies slow enough for you to practice fairly easily. You have a choice between water and cannon balls. To use the water, go to the rear of the deck, far left and press spacebar. Then move to the front of the deck, press spacebar again whilst in front of an enemy and SPLASH! You just soaked an enemy. You do the same with the cannon balls, except you go far left to pick them up. Eliminating a pirate by hitting them with an object earns you double points. Of course if you don't have time to grab anything, you still have your sword.

Level 3 is a bit harder; it introduces you to cannons, and the second use of the cannon balls and water. Welcome to multi-tasking. In this level you have to keep the pirates from getting onto the deck, and use cannons at the same time. To load cannons, go to the far left of the screen and press spacebar, then move to the cannon you want to load and press spacebar again. Who lights the cannon do you ask? Garin's only friend in this game, Jacques. But if he lights a cannon that you haven't loaded the cannon sets on fire, and if it burns away it costs you one life and the cannon is unusable until the next level. To extinguish a fire, go to the far right of the screen and pick up the water, move to the cannon in flames and press spacebar.

Level 4 does not introduce you to anything new, but the enemies start getting faster.

More Tips

Some last game tips

  • Points double when you knock a pirate over-board by using a cannon ball or bucket of water
  • At the beginning of a level, try and quickly fill all your cannons with cannon balls, then concentrate on the pirates. If you have time, try picking up another cannon ball, then when a pirate comes throw it at him and pick up another one. If a cannon gets fired, load it again. Keep doing this until it becomes too fast, then focus on the pirates more
  • If you put out a fire successfully you are awarded 5 points, and 12 points if a cannon successfully hits The Revenge
  • Try and stay in the center, instead of to the side of the deck. That way if a pirate comes on the far right side of the deck, you don't have to waste time coming from the far left side of the deck, and possibly not getting to him on time
