Now for what you came for!
2. Open up a new document and paste the two images into the document in two seperate layers. One image should overlap the other image slightly.
3. With the top layer active, go to Layer > Add Layer Mask > Hide All. Maybe sure it is HIDE ALL. The top layer should now be gone and you should have a layer mask.
4. Next, get your gradient tool...
...and use these settings:
5. Using your gradient tool, drag toward the "missing" image, like so...
6. Now you can remove the layer mask, if you are done, by going to Layer > Remove Layer Mask > Apply.
