Tutorial

Now for what you came for!
1. Now, let's get started by opening Photoshop - any version should do. I'm using Photoshop CS.

2. First, choose an image - any shall do.

3. Now, choose the single column marquee tool

4. Put the single column marquee anywhere on the image, but I recommend you to put somewhere where there is a lot of colour.

5. Press CTRL + C to copy the selected image (it's already been selected with the single column marquee tool)

6. Paste onto a new blank document.

7. Now click on the Move Tool or alternatively, press V on the keyboard.

8. On the toolbar below the menu bar, check the box for Show Bounding Box

9. With the Move Tool still on, stretch the image as far as you can. When it's been stretched, move the image, so it fills the whole background.

10. Desaturate the image by either pressing CTRL, Shift and U or going to Image >> Adjustments >> Desaturate

11. Make a new layer, and then go to the brushes palette, and choose a grunge brush. Make sure the foreground colour is white.

12. When you've done brushing the new layer, go to blending mode on the layers palette, and choose overlay. Make the opacity between 40-60%.

13. Then make a new layer, with the foreground chosen as black. Do the same as you have done with the white brushing. You can use different grunge brushes each time if you want to.

14. Repeat till you've got cool grunge effect.

15. Here is my effect.

16. When you've gotten the desired grunge effect, merge all layers.

17. Now, duplicate the layer by pressing CTRL + J.

18. On the duplicated layer, go to Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur. Make sure it is set at 3.0 pixels.

19. Then go to the blending mode on the layers palette, and choose Lighten. You can experiment with different blending modes.

20. Here is the completed result!

21. You can add gradient overlay, colour blending, and many more other awesome effects as well.

Just let your imagination run wild!
